"Earthling Ed" one of the protestors who stormed a pig farm.

Approximately 200 members of a UK vegan group gathered illegally at a farm in Lincolnshire to protest what they felt were inhumane practices followed by pig farmers.

The vegans caused a bit of havoc. Farmers reported that pigs were scampering and making it clear they did not want to be cuddled by the protestors. Police were called, but there were no arrests made.

One farmer spoke to the BBC.

The sows were very stressed initially with all the noise and the commotion, jumping up and down, squashing piglets, causing general havoc

Direct quotes from the farmer from the #meatthevictimsuk farm occupation:⁣ ⁣ “Nothing wrong here at all, all they keep telling me is that I’m a murderer because I produce pigs that are going to be eaten.”⁣ ⁣ “Our welfare standards are as good as absolutely anywhere.”⁣ ⁣ “The pigs are our priority.”⁣ ⁣ “They’ve got no love of animals, they don’t understand.”⁣ ⁣ You cannot love animals and kill them. You cannot love animals and pay someone else to kill them. You cannot love animals and commodify, butcher and mutilate their bodies. Farms are prisons for the innocent. One of the farmers accused the vegans of crushing two of his piglets in the commotion and injuring two more.

They were picking piglets up, cuddling them – there was a lot of screaming going on. Piglets don’t want to be cuddled. Then, unfortunately, they were putting the piglets back in the wrong pens.

Because it was such a long period of time we were not able to fulfill our caring duties to the animals. We could not get in to feed them as our barrow is the width of the passage.

The protestors have of course denied the charges. They would never hurt an animal!
